Robert Aramayo Breaks Down Why Elrond Is So Different In ‘The Rings Of Power’ From Peter Jackson’s Films
Robert Aramayo plays one of the few Rings of Power characters that are depicted in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, but viewers may have trouble recognizing the stoic figure of Hugo Weaving’s Elrond in Aramayo’s young and ambitious version of the character. In an interview with Collider, Aramayo explains the differences between the versions of the character.
Lord of the Rings takes place in the Third Age, thousands of years after the events of Rings of Power. All of Elrond's past accomplishments at the elf’s counsel during the war of the ring are still in the future for Aramayo’s Elrond. His brother Elros founded the city of Numenór, and his father Eärendil became a star as a reward for his service to the Valar in the War against Morgoth. However, Elrond, during this time period, has accomplished nothing of record; his only history is choosing to live as an elf instead of a human. Rings of Power shows Elrond at the beginning of his journey.
